JP photographed this bridge at Cairo, Illinois in 2012. It’s a continuous cantilever through truss bridge, using Warren trusses, some subdivided. It spans the Ohio River near the confluence with the Mississippi River. It was built by the Ohio-based Mount Vernon Bridge Company in 1936-38 and was rehabilitated twice- in 1976 and in 2019.

Sadly, the bridge’s days may be number if plans for replacement are in place. Hopefully city officials can find a constructive way to preserve it for future generations.
