

As we pay tribute to JR Manning during this season, I would like to revisit this bridge in Tama County, Iowa. It’s the Mill Street Bridge, spanning Wolf Creek in the small community of Traer. It was a work of the Clinton Bridge and Iron Company built in 1911, yet its end came at a very awkward moment. It was not that it fell to progress before our Historic Bridge Weekend in August 2013, it was how it came down. JR Manning took some photos of the bridge in March, days before it was demolished, and I had the honor to write about it just after his visit. Even though it was produced through Area Voices, this platform was discontinued in 2018. Yet thanks to wordpress’ technology, it was updated so that you can see a modern “archived” version.
