BHC Pic of the Week Nr. 30

The next Pic of the Week takes us back to Saxony and this railroad bridge. This four-span deck and pony truss bridge spans the River Elbe in the City of Meissen, located 24 Kilometers northwest of Dresden, the state’s capital.  While this bridge, which carries both rail and bike traffic, is the most historic of the city’s bridges, it is a typical truss Bridge, built after World War II when its predecessor was destroyed in 1945 by the Nazi soldiers in a desperate attempt to veer off the oncoming Soviet troops.  However, when on this bridge, especially at night, one can get a real treat when looking straight at the historic old town……..

An article on the City, its Christmas market and its heritage can be found in the sister column, The Flensburg Files. Click here to read about it.

Happy Holidays and enjoy your second Advent! 🙂
